1. GRAND CONFERENCE AWARD ($150/$100/$50)

WIT & WISDOM: ”Give Me My Money’s Worth!” (1000 word max.) Humorous essay about sports in general or a sport.  Be creative.  Uses the following phrases: “could go all the
way,” “one game at a time,”  and at least three other clichés.

2. GRAND CONFERENCE AWARD II($150/$100/$50)
CHAMBERLIN FAMILY FOUNDATION:
A Haibun (short poetic prose, concise and with precise wording, plus a haiku, loosely related to the prose.)

3. Historical Fiction Award  ($100/$60/$40) 
Write a short story based on an actual Arkansas historical event.  (1500-2000 words)  Chair: Phillip H. McMath
4. FWCA Potpourri ($50/$30/$20) Short Story, any genre (no erotica or gratuitous violence). (1500 word max.)

5. The Unlikely Hero Award ($100/$60/$40)  Fiction story about heroism shown by a loner in town to save someone in danger.  (3000 word max.)

6. Hot SpringsVillage Writers’ Club Award ($75/$50/$25) Fictional potpourri, short story, any genre, (1500 word max.)

7. Minute Award ($50/$30/$20) A slice of life in a 60 syllable, 12 line poem, iambic meter, 8444,8444,8444,  rhymed  aa-bb-cc--dd--ee--ff, capitalized and punctuated  like prose.

8. Rita Goodgame Award ($50/$30/$20) Free verse poem;
Title “The First Time”  (40 line max.)
9. Gale S. Gill Award ($50/$30/$20) Essay: Something I discovered about myself,  “Who I Am, Really.”  (1500 word max)
10. Bob & Faye Williams Jones Poetry Award ($50/$30/$20)  Free verse, any subject. (40 line max.)
11. Robbi Rice Dietrich Award ($50/$30/$20) Fiction, short story about a disastrous family vacation (1500 word max.)
12. Food, Glorious Food Award Essay with subject food: cooking, eating, or any situation revolving around food. (1st place: $100 plus automatic approval forgeneral residency for 2010. (No application fee required, but $45 day rate applies.)  Runner up, $50.

18. Arkansas Pioneer Branch NLAPW Prose Award Humorous fiction story with ghost or  witch or  vampire as a main character.  (2000 word max.) Chairs: Vicki & Gary Fountain
19. Arkansas Pioneer Branch NLAPW Poetry Award A ballad (a story in song, rhymed  with chorus after each verse)  (48 line max.) Chair: Harding Stedler
20. Mildred McKinney Award  Humorous poem about a first love,  any form, (24 line max.)
21. Sarah Presson Runnells Award Pick your favorite Jane Austen characters and breathe life into them with a story in modern times. (2500 word max.)

24. Association of Senior Arts Programs Award Short play (one act) emphasizing senior citizens and concerns of seniors.   Chair: Jerry L. Davis
25. “Look What the Cat Dragged In” Award Short story featuring an unexpected visitor. Chairs: Christine Henderson & Rhonda Roberts
26. Arkansas Writers’ Conference Prose Award Write a reverse top ten list of reasons (#10 least , #1  best) for attending a writers’ conference.  Chair: Patsy Pipkin
27. Arkansas Writers’ Conference Poetry Award Lyric, any subject, any form (36 line max.) Chair: Pat Laster
28. Flights of Fancy, Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Horror Award Honoring Tricia Johnson-McDuffie. Synopsis & pivotal chapter of novel.  No excess gore/sex.(15 pg. max.)  Chair: William Dobbins

32. AR Poet Laureate Award Traditional Shakespearean Sonnet. Subject, a favorite holiday.  Chair: Petty Vining
33. Swann Kohler Award Essay  on something about Little Rock, the state of Arkansas, or an Arkansas person. (1000 word max.)

34. Humane Society of Pulaski County Award "Our shelter Dogs or Cats" - True story about pets(s) from a shelter (2500 word max.) Chair: Corell E. Mullins
35. High Cotton on the Bayou Award Short story set at the Scott Plantation Settlement (2500 word max.) Chair: The Scott Connection
36. Student Poetry Award: Any form or subject (20 line max.) Open to grades 9-12. Give school and English teacher, follow contest rules. Chair: Nina Tillery
LITERARY AWARD RULES
1. AWARDS made only  if contest fee of $10 (enabling one to enter any and all contests), check made payable to Arkansas Writers’ Conference and mailed on or before APRIL 30, 2010to Clovita Rice, 1115 Gillette Drive Little Rock, AR72227 Must Include Contest Registration Form with entry  fee. Registration to attend conference does not include this entry  fee. 
2. DEADLINE  for postmarking manuscripts is April 30, 2010.  Entries destroyed two weeks after conference. AWC not responsible for manuscripts lost, delayed in mail,
or received too late for judging.  Do not send SASE. No manuscript returned. No winners’ list mailed.
3.  ONLY ONE TYPED, UNPUBLISHED MANUSCRIPT may be entered in each contest.  Double-space prose, single or double-space poetry.  Standard manuscript form must be followed.
4.  NO ENTRY MAY BE ENTERED IN MORE THAN ONE CONTEST.  No one may enter contest for which he/she is sponsor, chairman, or  judge.  Winners last year  may  not enter same contest this year if it is identical.  If contestants do not adhere to all rules, entries will be disqualified.
5.  PUT CONTEST NUMBER AND NAME OF AWARD in upper left corner of each entry.  Do not put your name on any manuscript.   Attach a 3x5 card to each entry with (1) Number and name of contest; (2) Title of entry; (3) First line of entry;  (4)Your name and mailing address. 
6.  MAIL ALL ENTRIES (together or separately) to Clovita Rice, 1115 Gillette Drive, Little Rock, AR72227. Winners not attending will be notified by mail the week following conference.
